Chapter 2: Part II
Amaya:
It was noon and a close friend of mine, Chrishelle, invited me to lunch. She said she spent the whole entire morning with Melanie while I was in class so she wanted me to tag along for lunch. I haven’t seen Shelle in a long time. Chrishelle and I have been friends since birth basically. Our moms are best friends. It's always been our dream to go to school out in Cali. Even though Chrishelle goes to USC we still make a huge effort to see her all the time.
When I finally found a parking space I cut the engine and looked into the rear view mirror to see little Cam playing with his toys. A small smile erupted on my face. I thank God everyday for not taking him away from me.
I took my phone that was in the cup holder and put it in the pocket of my pants. I got out the car and got Cam out of his car seat. I took my bag that was in front of his car seat along with Cameron's hand and began to walk into Cheesecake Factory.
I removed my shades of my face and went up to the hostess and asked for Chrishelle. I followed her outside with Cameron's hand still in mine. I spotted Melanie and Chrishelle close to the exit.
“Hey babes!" I said with a huge smile on my face. I was so happy to see these girls. Even though I see Mel 24/7, it was like the three musketeers were back. I gave Mel a kiss on the cheek and hugged Chrishelle.
When we were done with lunch, it was around one thirty. We were walking around Pembroke Gardens looking through stores and whatnot. It was such a beautiful day in LA. We were in Children’s Place because I wanted to buy Cam something. All three of us were flipping through the rack of clothes and talking about things that’s been going on in our lives.
“Um. Guys I need to tell you something” I said to them. They stopped flipping through the racks of toddler clothing and gave me their undivided attention.
“I - I had a nightmare again” I said with my voice a little bit shaky.
“When?” Chrishelle asked me with concern in her eyes.
“Like this morning, last night.”
“What happened?” Melanie asked coming around standing in front of me. I told them what happened with full detail. Even though it’s been three years not having contact with him. I still had nightmares.
They hugged me tightly and consoled me. I hated when I have those type of nightmares or nightmares at all. I just can’t take all of this. Melanie decided to get Cameron and let him try on the clothes we picked out for him. When she left, Chrishelle gave me another hug and looked into my eyes.
I know she could see that I was scarred. Scarred that I knew he would come back one day for his son.
“It’s going to be okay Amaya. You can’t let that fear take over you.” She said looking into my eyes. I shook my head up & down mouthed an okay. We hugged one last time and decided to go look for Melanie and the kids.
We found Melanie talking with some guy who looked very familiar from behind.
“Who is she talking to? Doesn’t she already have a man?” Chrishelle said causing me to laugh.
“Well, lets find out” I said grabbing her arm and leading us up to Melanie and this guy. When we got closer I heard Chrishelle whisper something that I couldn’t quite hear.
“Um, Melanie where is Cameron" I said still walking up to her.
Once I said that the guy had turned around. And guess who it was? Mr.Overly-Confident. Now what was he doing here.
A smirk came across his face and I rolled my eyes facing towards Melanie.
“Melanie… Cameron?” I asked once again with a hint of attitude.
I hate it when she leaves him unattended. With each second I started to get annoyed, every day when my child isn’t around I get scared because I don’t know what could happen to them and by who.
“Relax Amaya alright?” Melanie said touching my back lightly.
“Mel go get him before Missy over here has a heart attack.” Shelle said pointing towards me. Melanie turned around and went to go get Cameron.
‘I hate it when she does that,’ I mumbled lowly so no one could hear.
“You need to relax okay, now I’m going to pay for the clothes... and talk to that guy. He’s been eyeing you all this time.” Chrishelle whispered into my ear taking the clothes that were in my hands and walking up to the cashier. I turned around to see Javaughn smiling at me.
"What are you smiling at?" I said playfully.
“You look cute when you’re annoyed” My eyebrows went up in shock when he said that.
“Oh, so I’m cute?” I asked curiously. I walked over to the shelf of shoes for boys and started going through them.
“More like... Beautiful.."
He said following me. All I could do was chuckle. This dude was something else. I tried changing the subject by asking him a question.
“What are you doing in Children’s Place anyway? I’m pretty sure you don’t have a kid.” I said moving onto a rack full with jackets.
“Nah I don’t but I do have a nephew. Wanted to buy him something for when my sister comes to visit.” He said with kindness in his voice.
“Awe, isn’t that sweet of you.” I said turning around facing him. Man, was this guy gorgeous.
“Yeah, but how about that date Amaya? You still thinking about it ?” He asked me. Boy was he on a roll today.
“You really want to go on a date with me huh?” I asked him crossing my arms across my chest.
“I think you know that answer.” He said licking his lips. I looked away and thought for a second. I mean he wasn’t bad looking.
“I’m free tomorrow if that’s good with you.” I said looking into his brown eyes.
“That’s perfect.” He said smiling.
"I'll text you my address later." I said as I helped him pick out some stuff for his nephew. He showed me a few pictures of him and he was so cute. I think his name was Jospeh. I guess names starting with the letter J runs in his family.
